Towards the end of last winter, I discovered the show Vikings on the History channel and became obsessed with the set design and costumes of all the characters. It was the dead of winter here in Seattle, and I felt inspired by the show to create something dark and moody – hidden with all the undertones of warmth & luxury of the show’s characters. The resulting images are completely different than what I normally do, but to me touches on the current mood of what I was feeling this winter in Seattle – as well as my love for water (a recurring theme in my personal work since high school). I do find it important from time to time to step outside your comfort zone, shoot some personal work and stretch your creative boundaries!
I teamed up with my sister Amanda as my model – as she has been my muse for over fifteen years. Throughout high school and college I was always putting her in mud, or in water – and this shoot was no different, because despite what it looks like it was definitely raining 100% of the time for this shoot. We were drenched and cold, but I love how the images turned out. It was the perfect mood to describe my vision – and Amanda was a trooper for standing in the middle of a rain storm for these photos!
